I am a plant-based nutrition advocate and educator, Registered Nurse, and Licensed Massage Therapist, living in the beautiful state of Maine!
Hello, my name is Mary Dumond!
I love all things health, from learning about and eating healthy food to my enjoyment and obsession of bicycles (I own a fleet of six!). I began eating plant-based in early 2016 as it is so impactful to personal health. As I learned more about it, it became clear that eating a plant-centric diet also positively impacts the environment and has the power to help heal our planet. And there is also the obvious benefit of the reduction in cruelty to animals by eating plants and not animals. Eating plant-based is one way to be compassionate to ourselves, the environment, and other creatures that we share the planet earth with.
Originally hailing from Lawrence, Kansas, I am an avid University of Kansas Jayhawks basketball fan. I also enjoy music, playing my Ukulele, movies, reading, doing home projects (especially with my power tools!), gardening, yoga, xc skiing, walking, mountain biking, and spending time with my husband and our ‘wonder’ cat, Mavis. One of the reasons I moved to Maine in 1994 was for the amazing beauty here, therefore I love any time spent in the great Maine outdoors. I am also very passionate and committed to volunteerism. My volunteer endeavors are Master Gardening at Oxford Street garden and Tidewater Farm, Northern Light Hospice, Falmouth Land Trust, my church, New England Mountain Bike Association, and the University of Kansas Alumni Network Leaders.
As a Registered Nurse since 1987, I have observed a steady rise in chronic diseases and obesity. Our current health care system is largely focused on “sick” care and not “health” care. Fortunately the specialty practice of Lifestyle Medicine is advocating to change this approach and is educating providers on managing the root cause of disease, therefore preventing and reversing many chronic diseases and not just treating the symptoms.
Plant Powered Plant Strong was created in 2018 with the goals of educating others about plant-based nutrition and providing support to people while making healthy lifestyle changes. Through plant-based nutrition, it is my hope to help others heal their bodies and our planet, one plant at a time. I hope you'll come along on this journey with me and experience this amazing and transformative lifestyle!
Thank you for stopping in! I would enjoy hearing from you!
